We're still here, and improving our service to you.
With the recent news about LiveJournal cutting its staff dramatically, people are wondering whether their journals are still safe under the current regime running LJ. We'd like to take a few minutes of your time and let you know that our service has improved since the acquisition, and we are doing quite a few things to improve DeadJournal even more. To give you some idea about the safety of your journal here, the MySQL database is running on Amazon's Elastic Block Storage on a Linux XFS file system. Together this provides speed and massive redundance, as well as the ability for us to frequent database snapshots which we can roll back to in the unlikely event of a failure. System-wise, we are running on Amazon's Elastic Computing Cloud, which gives us a huge advantage of not having to deal with hardware, plus extremely easy scaling when the load increases.

With your paid accounts, you are ensuring that DJ will continue to grow and provide you better service and features. We also invite you to ... invite those LiveJournal users who are worried to come on over and try us out. We will be increasing the number of invite codes for you to give to them and your friends. I recommend taunting, torturing, and other devices to get them on here.

Very nice, keep up the good work! Those extra codes will come in very handy for expanding the DJ community.

That's all very good to hear. I keep wondering if Dj will ever drop invite codes entirely...

Good deal! I really love LJ and hope it sticks around, but it's nice to be here as well. Although most communities and users I've checked out don't seem to have updated their journals in like 5 years. Let's hope things get a little less, well, dead around here. Heh.

Definitely nice not to get a time out when you navigate, but a more layout choices and perhaps a few more userpics would be nice as well. :)

I'll second that about layout choices (though I do absolutely LOVE that I am allowed to design my own DJ's look).

I think getting the LJ crowd to shift to DJ would do a great thing for raising the age of this place. It was lots of fun for me when I was in my early 20s, but at this point so few of my cronies ever swing by that I hardly do... Perhaps it is also that people of an age securely adult want to see visual change, not just hear about plans. The best way to grab people's attention is to give the site a new face while you're busy giving the behind-the-scenes a facelift too!

I really like the idea of more invite codes. Thanks. :)

I look forward to all the changes you have in store and hope to see this place grow in a whole new direction.

I concur on the facelift, but one of the things about the acquisition is that we all agreed that we wouldn't be making any major changes quickly, otherwise it might look like Warped is trying to change DeadJournal. We want to make sure that our backend was scalable and solid before changing the frontend. A pretty facelift would be nice, but not if it's just polishing a gold-plated turd.

We already have a new theme for DJ, and are working on incorporating it so that you can choose. We are also working on a minimal version, to help with those people on slower connections.

As for raising the age of this group, it looks from the chart in stats.bml that the average account holder is sliding well into their 20s now, and we want to maintain an environment that doesn't cater to any specific group.

If you have suggestions, we are always open to hearing them!

Cryo is lying.

He secretly has DJ running on a 486 sitting under his desk with a pile of porno mags stacked on top.

:)

no, the porno mags are holding the 486 UP... and it's a 486DX2 baybee.

We're working on the keywords issue, its a really old DJ bug that we are in the process of tracking down.

What seems to work is to set a userpic to active, save, then you can edit its keyword (and it'll stick).

We tried a few things but it didn't fix the issue.

We're going to have to take the whole site down to rescan the database (which will take a few hours). I'm arranging a time where we can do this without impacting too many people.

My user pic keywords won't stay either. I tried renaming, but it won't work. I resorted to deleting them all, but still have the same issue. I hope you're able to figure out something soon, this is very frustrating. Also, since I'm on the subject... can we have more user pics for paid accounts? 50 just isn't enough. :P

yes I have. it says i've used up all the invites I can make. which is only one. wasnt sure if more were allowed or not.

part of me thinks it should be an open site so it gets more users but then again not having a ton of users keeps out the riff raff

DOH!
You've already generated all the codes you can get. Go do stuff to get more!

Stuff you have done to award yourself codes:

* For having an account for at least a week (no brainer!) (#).

Back to your list of codes.
