CONTENT: PRESS RELEASE
TITLE: WARPED COMMUNICATIONS, INC. ACQUIRES DEADJOURNAL.COM
CONTACT: PRESS@WARPED.COM
EMBARGO: 10/6/2008
BEGIN CONTENT: -- Warped Communcations, Inc. acquires DeadJournal.com --

Warped Communications, Inc., a Georgia corporation, is pleased to
announce the acquisition of DeadJournal.com, a journaling website
started in 2000. DeadJournal provides a darker-themed place for people
to record their lives, images, thoughts, rants and raves.

"Current users and customers of DeadJournal will now find their journals
on a distributed infrastructure with greater speed, security, scaling,
and reliability." said William J. Coldwell (Cryo), Founder and Vice
President of Warped Communications, Inc. "We welcome DeadJournal into
the Warped family, and will provide you with the great service that you
have come to expect from DJ. We enhance the service with our experience
and fantastic support."

Frank Precissi (SCSi), Founder and system administrator of DeadJournal
has joined the Warped executive staff and will continue to administrate
the site, ensuring that the standards set by him in creating the site
will remain. "I am excited over what we are now able to do with the
site. I look forward to concentrating on updating the source code as
well as bringing many more features to DeadJournal.", Mr. Precissi
says, adding, "This will give DJ the resources to improve rather than
just maintain."

DeadJournal supports OpenID, and uses the open-source LiveJournal code
modified with a sardonic and humorous theme towards goths, emo, and
zombies.

Warped Communications, Inc. (warped.com) is a privately held, premiere
web hosting company. Formed in 1994, Warped has provided thousands of
customers with reliable hosting, technical support and customer service.

All trademarks are those of their respective companies. No emo teen goth
zombies were harmed during this press release and transition.

...Wow.

Well, at least our new overlords aren't the ones for LiveJournal, and I hope we don't have any Russian overlords. Ever. Congrats!

I've used Warped hosting before. Trust me, they couldn't be the highest bidder.
:)

But, they aren't that bad.

Just adding another wave of gratitude for everything you do for us, and for keeping us in the loop when the switch went down (I've been trying to keep an eye out for bugs &c, but thus far everything seems to be working fine).

Can't speak for everyone on the site, obviously, but I personally don't see how this changeover can be anything other than good news for everyone involved - and especially so if it keeps you yourself from going crazy over us.

Thanks again for all the hard work, and best of luck to our new alien overlords. ;)

I'm glad you had someone you could trust to look after the place who won't immediately take a saw to it, and I'm also glad you decided to hang around to keep an eye on us. Hopefully this turns out to be everything you've planned it to be. Sanity and free time are good things. :)

Thank you again for taking good care of Deadjournal and not giving in to any pressure to close down just because there are other blog-type sites that pander to the HTML-challenged.

Wow that's big. Congratulation on the "merger" and thanks for keeping the site going so well, I wouldn't know what I do if I couldn't write, I've had mine journal a long time.

Congrats on your merger and thanks for all the hard work you've put into the site! I've had my DJ for years and hope to stay for many more, so I am very thankful for all your efforts to keep the site up and running. :)

Anything to keep a person sane is good, right? Hopefully it'll work out for the best!

SWEET! Congrats, Frank! That's so great. I've been secretly hoping that change would happen around here -- not because there's something actually wrong, but just because change is a sign of life.

*pause*

Yaw, I know it's DEADjournal, but you know what I mean. (XP Anyways, you're awesome!

Thanks for the update and all your hard work!

There are a couple suggestions I'd like to make for the new and improved DeadJournal. I feel that although DeadJournal is my favorite place to blog, it has fallen behind other blogging sites. These are my thoughts on how to enhance the DJ site:

1) Allow video embedding. While it is possible to post links and use codes (like a href="link"), YouTube and other video sharing sites have become and integral part of the internet experience. Having video embedding will make it easier for people to share test and video on this site.

2) Allow open and detailed directory searches. I feel that DeadJournal has lost many of its members over the years b/c it is so hard to find people on this site other than comparing interests. I left DJ a while back b/c I couldn't share my journal with anyone, but after finding people in RL and searching for friend codes so they could have a journal, I've picked it up again.

3) Allow more journals to be created. I'm not against the friend code idea b/c I understand it would be crazy to manage this site if a thousand people joined every day, but if each member only gets one or two codes ever in the history of their journal, how is this site supposed to keep its members? I've been trying to get more friends to check out my journal, but most of my entries ar efriends only so they can't access them b/c they don't have a journal. I keep having to ask other people if I can use their friend codes, but they're so scarce. At least have it so that everyone gets another friend code every month or two.

These are just my thoughts :] Thanks for reading.

I'd like to second these three suggestions and add a plea to retain the use of invite codes. IMO, doing away with the invite codes led LJ down the path to darkness that resulted in SixApart and SUP.

There is already a painfully obvious way to get pretty much as many codes as you want! All you have to do is kick in a few dollars to help support Deadjournal instead of being a whiny freeloader. You want a code every month? Try paying for a month. Works great!

I paid for 12 months a few years ago, and I still have a bunch of codes left. They don't go away when your paid account reverts back to freeloader status, even if you abandon your DJ for years--ya I just checked mine. (Don't bother whining asking, I'm keeping them. Get your own.)

I am happy that you have stayed as dedicated as you have to DJ. I like here much more as I've said. Thank you for continuing the site. I don't know what I'd do without this place honestly.
