Downtime 6/6-6/7
*sigh* Hello everyone.

You're probably wondering what happened to DeadJournal all day on 6/6/07.

Another server in the same facility as DJ was hit with a distributed denial of service attack. Meaning they flooded the network with so much bogus traffic (80 megabits/sec) that no legit traffic (meaning you) could get to the site. In fact, the entire facility was brought down by this attack.

The attack was NOT aimed at DJ or anything related to DeadJournal. We were just an innocent third party that got hit during the attack. A lot of us were.

I feel awful that I've had to sit all day and watch the site crawl and die. I have not been able to do anything to help anyone but just wait until the attack either stopped or upstream blocks had been put in place.

Again, these attacks did NOT target DJ, you, or your journals. We just got caught up in the flood of traffic.

It was sad. I had to resort to LJ and became even more depressed knowing that their site was working but DJ was not. I felt a little dirty acutally...

Glad that everything is working again and nothing too bad was happening.

Good to know that there is actually a site that keeps people informed personally not those damned, "This is just a test. If this was not a test you'd be dead." type of thing. Good thing I didn't duck and cover when the flash went off I'd have been screwed.
Thanks for your time and concideration with the memo. By the way did you get that memo about TPS Reports? Yeah...

Ahhh, so good to be back. And so nice to notice that people over at DJ handle things a bit more calmly than the folks over at LJ. The whole Strikethrough thing got seriously out of hand... Some of us started wondering if the two incidents were connected, but luckily not. Thanks yet once again, Frank.

thank you for keeping us updated and working so hard for us. i don't know what i would do without DJ. i never could stand the other sites.

Also, do you think that new journal styles will be available soon for free distribution? There are lots of folks who know nothing about style coding or just don't have the time for it, but they'd like a journal with a fresh look. It could be a nice gift to the users. :)

Thanks for giving us DeadJournal. You've been so dedicated all these years. I've had my DJ blog since 2001!

Go here, click on Account Status, change your status to "deleted" and click "Change Status".

Hi o_o I have a question for you....

A friend recently told me that LJ added a feature to automatically change all entries to friends only or private...so I was wondering if you'll ever be adding this feature? It'd be really helpful to get rid of trolls on my journal >_>

It's not dead. It's still here, after all. And [info]scsi has updated his own journal fairly recently.
